Picking up pace again

We have been quiet for a while now, but by no means lazy!
After investing putting in some late hours, we have now developed a
crawler prototype which will help us immensely aggregating content on
our site. We are still testing the prototype on a small set of sources
but don't you worry: the big push will come soon!
Also, we passed the first round and have now been invited to pitch
ScholarlyMinds.com in front of Agile Ventures' proven and successful
entrepreneurs Mark Pritchard and Andy Yates. Saying that we are
excited you be a modest understatement! Should we make it through and
get the offered seed investment and invaluable advice, we could
finally afford to employ these great few people that we keep on that
always-open Rolodex under: awesome! And development could be pushed
hard to bring ScholarlyMinds.com home...Fingers crossed for next week
:-)

EU's European Research Area (ERA) endorses ScholarlyMinds

Eu-era-schminds-combo

Since its creation by the European Union more than seven years ago, the European Research Area (ERA) enabled researchers to benefit from pan-European and international research networks, optimised and opened research programmes in order to support the best research throughout Europe and, moreover, developed strong links with partners around the world so that Europe benefits from the worldwide progress of knowledge.  ScholarlyMinds is very proud to be an official partner of ERA as a central pillar of the EU 'Lisbon Strategy' for the European 'broad-based innovation strategy' and the creation of a European Higher Education Area.

From Community to Content

Community_vs

Okay we can let the cat out of the bag... After carefully listening to our users, considering our mentors and other creative minds’ advise, and, of coure, learning from mistakes, we decided to shift the focus of our site from community to content. Now, you do not need to register anymore to search and find, list and review relevant information on research, events, funding, jobs and other academics worldwide – get access to core information in academia, simple and free.

Launch Party @ Oxford

In order to celebrate the successful launch of ScholarlyMinds in Oxford, we invited friends and scholarly minds to our launch party at the University Club. Curiosity to hear more about our new service centralising academic content and the opportunity to meet other like-minded people – and we hope not the free drinks – lured many to show up and to join the academic community there and online!

Camilla and Tatjana did a great job promoting our site, Jake took terrific fotos, and Jochen and me tried hard to answer all your questions ;o)

It was a great evening about partying and socialising; furthermore, many of you present that night provided very helpful feedback. Therefore, we can only but thank you for your company and response.

There is not much to be added to Christan's description of the event - overall it was great fun and we are already looking forward to the launch event in London early next year.

Below, please find some impression of the evening - many thanks to Jake from envirofoto.com again.

Watch that space for updates,

The baby is born!

Good things come to those who wait, they say. After almost one year of
pregnancy or rather preparation, our long awaited baby,
ScholarlyMinds, was born last night! – Well, she is certainly not
perfect (yet) but we are excited and optimistic about her future.

Apart from welcoming the newborn, I would like to thank all
obstetricians: mainly Jochen, Steve, Javier and Thomas, who invested
many hours and money, but also Jerome and Pete, who provided crucial
advice and support. ScholarlyMinds is the result of numerous
productive, but not always easy, meetings either in Oxford or online.
Thank you for your patience and support!

While we gave birth to the little one, from now on ScholarlyMinds
requires your acceptance and help to thrive and prosper; ultimately,
you are ScholarlyMinds.

On behalf of the whole team,
Christian@scholarlyminds.com
